About this project

The rapid economic growth, urbanization, and population increase in many cities across Asia and the Pacific have outpaced the provision of essential infrastructure, services, and supplies, including water, sanitation, and food. This rapid and often unplanned growth has placed immense pressure on the environment, further limiting access to safe and secure water and sanitation for vulnerable populations. While this project primarily focuses on addressing water-related challenges in rapidly urbanizing areas, it also emphasizes generating positive synergies in related areas such as gender equality, food security, education, technology application, and capacity building. By integrating these interconnected issues, the project seeks to create comprehensive solutions that alleviate environmental and social pressures while enhancing the overall well-being and resilience of the region’s most vulnerable communities. The project embraces the latest advancements in global technology and know-how, particularly from Japan, to deliver efficient and sustainable solutions to urban challenges in Asia. It specifically aims to bridge the gap between innovative solutions emerging in Japan and the urgent needs of fast-growing cities in the region.
