About this project
The project aims to support the Ministry of Environment in Lebanon to reduce Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants (UPOPs) emissions and improve solid waste management in selected serviced zones. The project covers three main components, firstly, strengthen regulatory framework and capacities for sustainable waste management in the circular economy. Secondly, the project aims to provide investments to demonstrate: (i) 3R practices to reduce waste entering dumpsites/landfills in selected SW serviced zones; and (ii) Best Available Techniques (BATs) and Best Environmental Practices (BEPs) to eliminate open burning at selected dumpsites. The third component encompasses monitoring and evaluation activities. In addition, the project will also include a Project Management Unit (PMU), to be implemented by the Ministry of Environment .
