About this project
Urban flood risk is particularly high in many Indonesian cities, caused by a range of factors including rapid urbanization and poor construction practices; poor drainage design and insufficient (or infrequent) maintenance; increasing effects of climate change; and coastal infrastructure that needs upgrading. A balanced and cross-sectoral approach to urban flood risk management, encompassing both structural and non-structural measures, is needed to address these challenges. Increased and systematic investments to reduce urban flood risk need to be integrated with urban development projects, as well as the institutionalization of a maintenance and improvements regime of urban drainage and flood infrastructure. The government is proposing to establish a National Urban Flood Resilience Program to address the above.Participating cities under the national program would receive support to develop flood risk analytics and project proposals for city-wide and/or location-specific interventions through a tiered approach that allows cities to access different investment options depending on their readiness, capacity, and flood risk profile. The National Urban Flood Resilience Project will support establishment of the national program and flood resilience investments in five select cities. The project has three key components: (i) Flood Risk Analytics and Planning; (ii) Urban Flood Resilience Measures; and (iv) Program Management and Implementation Support.
