Community-Based Recovery and Stabilization Project for the Sahel

About this project

The project seeks to contribute to the recovery and resilience of communities in target areas of the Liptako-Gourma Region of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger through a regional approach supporting (i) integrated socio-economic services and infrastructure, (ii) livelihoods and territorial development, and (iii) regional data and coordination. The project is structured around four main components. Component 1: Resilient and inclusive recovery of conflict-affected communities. This component will not be financed under the AF, as it focuses on post-humanitarian support in less secure areas. The Government will instead prioritize scaling up durable solutions under the Community Driven Development (CDD) approach as part of Component 2 in order to sustain and build upon gains in more secure areas by building on an established delivery system capable of implementing community-responsive investments at scale. Component 2: Transitional support towards stabilization and territorial development of communities. Under this component, the AF will finance community-prioritized socio-economic infrastructure and livelihood activities in secured communities through the CDD approach. Investment options follow a consolidated open menu (subject to a negative list) including drinking water systems, sanitation, schools, health centers, solar electrification, rural markets, grain storage, irrigated perimeters, and livelihood activities.
