Second Regional Economic Development Project

About this project

The development objective of Second Regional Economic Development Project for Kyrgyz Republic is to improve access to basic municipal services, strengthen competitiveness of selected agriculture value chains, and increase SME activities in the Batken Region. This project has five components. The first component, Supporting municipal infrastructure, basic public services, and capacity building, will follow the GRID principles to identify critical constraints in an evidence-based manner as proposed by the RISE approach. The second component, Strengthening Agriculture Competitiveness, has the following sub-components: Improving basic public agricultural services; and Strengthening Agri-Food Clusters. The third component, Promoting local economic development through the Small Grants Program, will support SME development through a training and small grants program. The fourth component, Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC), is to improve the Kyrgyz Republic's capacity to respond to disasters. Following an eligible crisis or emergency, including climate-related disasters, the recipient may request the Bank to reallocate project funds to support emergency response and reconstruction. The fifth component, Operational Support, will support project implementation, including the project's monitoring and evaluation system, communication strategy, application of environmental and social instruments, training, and financing of incremental operating costs of the PIE.
