About this project
SVTP-2 will develop gravity irrigation infrastructure in the Shire Valley that will deliver water to blocks of land where commercial agriculture will be practiced. Component one will complete and commission the temporary intake and the first 52 km of Main Canals 1 and 2, including all associated hydraulic structures. It will further support environmental restoration measures and environmental and social compliance activities required to transition the scheme from construction to full operation. Component two will support finalization of land registration and consolidation activities to establish the first cohort of commercially managed Smallholder Owned Commercial Farm Enterprises (SOCFEs) across the initial 1,000 Ha. Component 3 will support operationalization of the first SOCFE through irrigation service delivery, agricultural advisory support, farm management services, governance strengthening, and capacity building aimed at making the SOCFEs commercially viable and supporting climate-resilient agricultural enterprises. Component 4 will be scaled back to support landscape restoration, productive forestry initiatives, and livelihood support activities.
