About this project

The Additional Financing (AF) under the RMI Urban Resilience Project (RMIURP) is designed to scale up and consolidate a proven, multi-sectoral approach to strengthening urban resilience in the Republic of the Marshall Islands by deepening ongoing reforms and financing priority investments in high-risk urban areas, particularly Majuro. The AF builds on existing project components by expanding risk-informed urban planning and building code implementation, advancing coastal protection and resilient public space investments, upgrading critical public and emergency facilities, and strengthening disaster preparedness and response systems, while ensuring continued support for project management and institutional capacity. The design emphasizes integration of long-term policy and institutional reforms with targeted, climate-resilient infrastructure and community-focused interventions, responding to rising climate and disaster risks, rapid urbanization, and demonstrated financing gaps needed to meet the project's development objectives and results indicators.
