About this project

The project will aim to: i) make investments market-led and orienting the agriculture and food system towards commercialization based on market intelligence; ii) enhance the role of the private sector to drive innovation and investment in the sector and creating high quality jobs; iii) enable smallholder farmers to benefit from improved access to technology and markets, thereby increasing farm incomes; and iv) utilize and build upon the institutional capacity existing in the state by developing strategic partnership to bring cutting edge technology to the sector. The project will promote productivity in smallholder agriculture, which is expected to intensify farming activity and may result in an increased use of fertilizers and pesticides by farmers as well as water. The project may also promote aquaculture and food processing activities. The project may support the procurement of small farm equipment for water lifting and crop drying, equipment to support fuel-efficient agro-logistics, and planting material. However, the project will not support the procurement of fertilizers and pesticides. Additionally, it has not yet been determined whether the project will support activities that may entail small-scale and localized construction or physical upgrades/improvements of aggregation facilities, warehouses, and cold storage.
