About this project

The South Sudan Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP) combines support for nationwide delivery of essential health and nutrition services with investments to strengthen government stewardship and the health system. The Project Development Objective is to expand access to a basic package of health and nutrition services, improve health-sector stewardship, and strengthen the health system. The proposed second Additional Financing (AF2) comprises US$30 million equivalent in IDA financing and a US$15.658 million Pandemic Fund grant. The AF2 will: protect a prioritized package of health and nutrition services within a streamlined service-delivery footprint; introduce Performance-Based Conditions to strengthen performance, accountability, stewardship and sustainability; expand health emergency preparedness and response (HEPR) activities; revise implementation arrangements, including a pilot of direct implementation with NGOs; and extend the project closing date. Component 1: Provision of Basic Health Services Nationwide. This component finances delivery of essential health and nutrition services through health facilities, outreach services, and the Boma Health Initiative (BHI), including services for refugees, returnees, host communities, and populations living in remote and conflict-affected areas.
