About this project
The proposed project will finance medium voltage (MV) works up to 132 kV and low voltage (LV) works to reinforce the electricity networks, install control equipment in key network segments, and install LV distribution lines to enable last-mile electrification. Main activities will include: (a) construction of new 132 kV and 66 kV lines and associated substations; (b) construction of LV distribution networks; (c) upgrade of existing 66 kV lines and substations; (d) installation of remotely controlled protection equipment (auto-reclosers); (e) installation of transformers; (f) protection scheme, metering, and system operation and control enhancements; and (g) installation of fiber optic cables. In addition, the project will finance the connection of unelectrified households and public facilities in peri-urban and targeted rural areas to the grid, as well as the establishment of an Off-Grid Finance Facility to mitigate risk and improve the overall viability of Solar Home System distribution, thereby providing electricity access to remote rural households through results-based and catalytic grants.Furthermore, the project will support a range of technical assistance activities, including sector policy reforms, resilience, and sustainability; provide implementation support covering monitoring and evaluation, procurement, contract management and supervision, safeguards, and gender; and strengthen sector capacities through targeted capacity building.
