About this project

The project is aligned with the Government of Zambia’s (GOZ) development agenda as outlined in Vision 2030 and the 8NDP which identifies water as one of the key enablers for socio-economic development through the enhancement of management and productive use of water resources and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), goal number 6 of ensuring access to water and sanitation for all by 2030. The project is aligned with the African Union Agenda 2063 which has prioritized water security to build environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies and communities for a fully water secure continent by 2030. Zambia has endorsed the African Water Vision 2025, which has a focus on the equitable and sustainable use of water for socio-economic growth which fully aligns with the objectives of the project. The project is consistent with the policy directions of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy (WSSP,2020) and the National water policy (2010) with respect to water resources development and management and supports the government’s development priorities established in the Water Supply and Sanitation(WSS) Act(1997)and Water Resources Management Act (2011). The project contributes to climate finance, with 5 million USD of the total approved amount dedicated to adaptation.
