About this project

The project is a 4-year initiative that strengthens climate and disaster resilience in the remote provinces of Torba (Vanuatu) and Temotu (Solomon Islands). Implemented through Indigenous-led, gender-responsive, and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) approaches, it responds to escalating climate hazards and the limited reach of centralized disaster systems in outer-island contexts. Working with Indigenous communities, local organizations, and provincial and national authorities, MELCOR supports the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems, advances marine protected areas, and revitalizes traditional stewardship practices. The project also promotes climate-resilient livelihoods particularly for Indigenous women, through regenerative blue-economy, agri-food, and renewable-energy value chains that strengthen food, water, and energy security while reducing pressure on fragile ecosystems.
