About this project

June 2026 - Two powerful earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela in rapid succession, causing widespread devastation across Caracas, La Guaira, and surrounding states. The disaster has resulted in significant loss of life, extensive damage to homes, critical infrastructure, and essential services, while displacing thousands of people. With support from Global Affairs Canada, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) is delivering lifesaving health services while restoring the operational capacity of the health system. Project activities include: (1) enabling the delivery of emergency medical care, including coordinating emergency medical teams; (2) restoring functionality and safe operations of essential health services; (3) delivering essential medicines, supplies and equipment; (4) preventing, detecting and responding to infectious hazards with epidemic potential; (5) supporting community-based health activities, risk communication, mental health and psychosocial services, and health-risk mitigation in shelters and displacement sites; and (6) coordinating health sector partners and response operations.
