About this project
The project is part of the project Improved access to water distribution performance and related sewerage disposal in Irbid Governorate for host communities and Syrian refugees, which is to be financed jointly by the French Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), the EU and Germany under the Mutual Reliance Initiative (MRI) with a total investment volume of approximately EUR 152 million. The German part-financing of EUR 80 million includes a grant component of EUR 40 million and a loan component of EUR 40 million. The loan component will be financed by the Water Resources Management Programme III (BMZ No 2012.66.725) and Water Resources Management Programme IV (BMZ No 2014.67.869). AFD has already raised EUR 40 million in grants for the project through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (MADAD) and the EU Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF) and will itself provide a concessional loan of EUR 32 million. The project will finance measures to improve water distribution and sanitation in the northern governorates of Jordan. In addition, measures to strengthen the technical capacities of the regional utility Yarmouk Water Company (YWC) are being financed, which aim to maintain and maintain the financed infrastructure. Another component of the project is to expand access to water and sanitation services in a broad-based, highly poverty- and refugee-orientated manner. The target group consists of both Syrian refugees and the local population in the project…
