Integrated Groundwater Resources Management in the Nexus Water - Land - Energy (BGR)

About this project

Jordan is planning to take greater account of the situation of groundwater resources in the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus (WEF Nexus). The objective of the project is as follows: The conditions of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MWI) and sector organizations for increased use of evidence-based groundwater resource monitoring data in the context of the WEF-Nexus have improved. Key measures are aimed at capacity development of Jordanian stakeholders to collect nationwide groundwater data (parameter: water level, water quality, well status, borehole data), to store and analyse the nationwide groundwater data and to use groundwater data in the WEF Nexus. The project partner is the MWI and other stakeholders in the WEF Nexus. The target group consists of about 100 senior management and technical staff from state institutions in the water sector and public water utilities, and organisations in the WEF Nexus. Indirectly, the measures benefit the Jordanian population (11.2 million), which is affected by overall inadequate water supply for households and agriculture and the associated health, nutrition and environmental risks.
