About this project
Mongolian herders still depend on livestock and the utilisation of natural resources. However, much of their grazing land is now severely degraded and cannot be used sustainably. This has been caused by unsustainable incentive systems and inappropriate pasture management despite rapidly growing livestock numbers, as well as the increasing sedentarisation of herders. Working with a range of partners at different levels, the project mainly promotes sustainable and responsible production of animal fibres. The project supports sustainable rangeland management to restore and conserve biodiversity, enhance ecosystem services, diversify local incomes and set standards for sustainable yak wool. In line with the sustainable development goals, local institutions and thus the sustainable textile sector as well as community-based approaches are promoted. The project aims to sustainably expand and develop inclusive value chains to increase resilience.
