About this project
The worlds largest mangrove forests, the Sundarbans, provide income opportunities for the people of Bangladesh, have a unique ecosystem and are a global carbon sink. Pollution from plastic waste and inadequate waste disposal systems are two of the factors threatening their conservation. The aim of the project is to reduce (plastic) pollution by sensitising the local population. Particular attention is paid to young people, as they make up a particularly high proportion of the population. Their capacities are being strengthened as part of a youth network so that they can actively educate the public about the dangers and risks of polluting the Sundarbans and the options for waste disposal. Furthermore, their participatory opportunities in decision-making processes are strengthened. Communication and cooperation between state and non-state actors should also help to improve the problem of pollution at a structural level.
