Improving the working and living conditions of recyclers in Oaxaca through an inclusive recycling strategy

About this project

The project measures include training for 100 recyclers to raise their awareness of labor and human rights, as well as training to learn entrepreneurial skills and build cooperatives. The recyclers receive materials for better and more efficient waste collection practices and are connected with local businesses to sell the collected materials profitably. Further measures aim to build the capacity of 40 employees of the municipal administrations of the project municipalities to create sustainable structures in relation to the waste management system, including the integrative recycling strategy. Measures to educate, inform and sensitize the population are aimed at pupils and teachers at 8 schools in the project municipalities, who are informed about the importance of waste separation and a functioning waste management system. All measures are aimed at integrating recyclers into the labor market and social life and contribute to a sustainable waste management system in the project communities that improves the living conditions of recyclers and the population.
