About this project

The aim of the project is to support young people from Qeqchi communities in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, to build green businesses in the context of climate-smart agriculture in order to strengthen their livelihoods and resilience to climate change. To achieve this goal, the participants will develop skills and knowledge on topics such as entrepreneurship, value chains, methods for climate-smart agriculture, gender equality and life skills through various trainings and workshops. They will also be supported in drawing up their business plans and encouraged to form agricultural cooperatives for joint marketing and networking on local, national and regional markets. Parents are also trained to develop their skills in the areas of health, nutrition as well as child and youth protection. Other important components are the strengthening of agro-climatic roundtables, networking with climate information networks as well as advocacy work and influencing public policies and strategically relevant actors to reduce climate impacts and strengthen green businesses in the region. In this way, the project will make a valuable contribution to the sustainable development of green businesses and climate change resilience of Qeqchi communities in Guatemala.
