About this project

The measures aim to improve the food security and income situation of vulnerable households in the districts of Badulla and Monaragala in the province of Uva in Sri Lanka. Methodologically, the Barefoot Development Partner Approach is used, which combines training, practical implementation, consultancy and coaching, technical and digital equipment as well as networking and advocacy work. Women from 1,200 vulnerable households attend trainings to learn how to feed themselves, their children and other household members with a balanced diet. They learn methods of agriculture and livestock farming that help them adapt to climate change and increase and diversify their food production. By promoting their entrepreneurial skills and abilities, the women gain access to market information and utilise local value chains. In this way, they secure the income of their households in the long term. The activities are implemented and monitored in close coordination with the Nutritional Task Force of the Presidential Secretariat and with the district and provincial departments of the Ministry of Health and Agriculture. The project implementing organisation works together with the target groups towards integrating the Barefoot Development Partner Approach into government support programmes.
