About this project
The project aims to enhance resilience among 5,000 households in climate-vulnerable areas of Satkhira district, Bangladesh, by the projects end. The impacts of climate change, including floods, waterlogging, cyclones, and storm surges, disproportionately affect various population groups, contributing to significant setbacks in agriculture, food security, livelihoods, and the local economy. The projects objectives are to improve resilience, adopt gender-sensitive, climate-friendly agricultural practices, and access climate-resilient infrastructures for these households. Through the transfer of knowledge on climate-friendly agriculture, and diversified diets for women the project aims to decrease the heat-island effect, enhance employment opportunities for youth and adolescent girls through skill development, strengthen basic infrastructure, and increase awareness of gender-specific violence and discrimination. Capacity-building among government employees and partner organizations on climate-adapted approaches and the effects of climate change on local food systems is also a priorit to ensure that marginalized communities, especially women, will have better access to basic services, knowledge, and resources for climate-resilient living and employment. Furthermore, the project focuses on improving basic drinking water services, and sanitation facilities to mitigate the fresh water scarcity and public health risks in urban and rural areas of Satkhira.
