About this project
The deforestation of the rainforest in the Bolivian Amazon region not only has serious consequences for the environment, but also for the people who live there. The degradation of the land threatens the productive resources of local inhabitants, who live primarily from agriculture. At the same time, the water supply is also at risk, as the wellbeing of forests and water supply are closely linked. The measures in this project address the root causes of the problem: The harmful effects of human activity and the importance of an intact environment are promoted through training and awareness-raising campaigns with the population. With the help of increased access to information and regional cooperation, local politicians are empowered to engage in environmental protection and resource management. At the same time, harmful agricultural practices-especially livestock farming-are adapted to build opportunities for more sustainable and environmentally-friendly livelihoods. In addition to tackling the causes, the project activities also address the consequences. Large-scale reforestation activities will partially reverse the loss of forest cover in the project area. At the same time, water protection areas are being established to ensure the continuity and quality of the water supply in the long term. Through supporting these changes, the project will contribute to the harmonization of environmental protection and the continuation of peoples livelihoods in the project area.
