About this project

Smallholder farmers in the Mossurize and Macorococho, in the centre of Mozambique, live with the constant risk of becoming victims of extreme weather events caused by climate change. Cyclones cause devastation at regular intervals and destroy their livelihoods, while heavy rainfall and droughts are increasingly common phenomena. This project aims to strengthen the capacities, skills and organizational structures of smallholder farmers and thus make them more resilient to extreme weather events. The primary aim is to strengthen their capacities for agricultural income-generating activities, with the help of which they can generate financial reserves and thus independently purchase new seeds in the event of crop losses. The organization in agricultural associations should also help to increase solidarity and cohesion among the target group and facilitate the transfer of knowledge among them.
