About this project

The aim of the project is to support young, rural and indigenous women in Lempira, Intibucá and Santa Bárbara to lead sustainable agroecological business initiatives based on the preservation and promotion of indigenous and rural agroecological knowledge and practices and to promote food sovereignty in their communities. To achieve this goal, comprehensive measures are taken to ensure that participants have improved knowledge and access to productive resources and marketing opportunities, thereby increasing their production capacities and incomes. In addition, they are supported in actively representing their interests in local politics in order to strengthen their rights and visibility. The programme works with a range of relevant stakeholders to bring about sustainable change at various levels. This includes strengthening associative rural businesses and Cajas Rurales, grassroots civil society and womens organisations as well as state municipal institutions such as the local womens offices. The project thus makes an important contribution to improving the living conditions and economic empowerment of young, rural and indigenous women in Honduras.
