About this project

The village of Agung is located near the boundaries of the Murchison Falls National Park in northern Uganda. From there, elephants regularly invade the area and destroy fields, houses and even human lives. Following scientific expertise as well as practical experience, it was considered to establish bee colonies as protection measure. First experiences have been and are quite encouraging. As a result of this pilot phase and in order to provide additional income opportunities (diversification, risk reduction), bee keeping along the park boundaries shall be promoted. This entails infrastructural measures (bee hives, equipment, production unit) and training.
