About this project

The project region is one of the poorest regions in the country, as living conditions are very difficult, with infertile soil and extreme weather conditions such as long periods of drought or heavy rainfall with flooding exacerbating the problems faced by smallholder farmers. The civil war has also meant that many families are dependent on their mothers alone as breadwinners, as many men have been murdered or abducted by the armed actors. Poverty in rural areas is exacerbated by the often violent concentration of land in the hands of large landowners. The project aims to strengthen the integral rural development of smallholder families in five rural communities in three areas through community water management, the introduction and improvement of agroecological practices and the processing and marketing of their own produce.
