About this project

The project contributes to the sustainable (re)integration of refugees and returnees and promotes social cohesion among members of host communities, returnees, and refugees in the North Gondar Zone, Amhara Region. The aim is to enhance the resilience of the target groups through improved access to WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), education, and protection services, improved livelihood opportunities, and enhance the participation of women and people with disabilities in the Debark, Addi-Arkay, and Telemt woredas, as well as in the Alemwach refugee site and the host community of Dabat. Planned activities include the construction and rehabilitation of drinking water facilities, hygiene training, and the establishment of structures for maintaining the facilities. Accessible schools will be built, teachers and facilitators will be trained in inclusion, students with disabilities will be supported individually, and an inclusive environment will be strengthened through parent self-help groups and student clubs. Income opportunities, especially for women and people with disabilities, will be created through Village Economic and Social Associations (VESA groups), small livestock farming, and start-up capital for small businesses. Basic services for refugees will be established through the construction of a rehabilitation center, a multipurpose center, and volunteer training. Strengthening organizations of people with disabilities helps to permanently embed inclusion.
