About this project
The objective of the project is the sustainable use of fishing grounds and the development of the potential of Lakes Imiría and Chauya, as well as the adjacent primary and secondary forests, which belong to the territories of the indigenous Shipibo-Konibo-Xetebo people. The aim is to resolve the conflict of interest between economic use and nature conservation. To achieve this goal, indigenous self-governance is strengthened through the implementation of participatory management plans, the introduction of fishing bans and catch quotas, and the adoption of measures to ensure food security. These approaches promote the sustainable use of natural resources and safeguard the regions ecosystem in the long term. At the same time, green value chains are established and strengthened, including fish, bijao leaves, aguaje, and Amazonian bees. These are managed by local Shipibo-Konibo-Xetebo actors, linked to regional and national markets, and create new sources of income, thus enabling sustainable economic development in harmony with nature.
