Global Program: Strengthening Governance for WASH Systems delivery to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 - phase II

About this project

Phase II of the Global WASH Program builds upon the achievements and lessons from Phase I, focusing on scaling and institutionalizing WASH systems strengthening across the four program countries Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and India. Systemic challenges are addressed by working through five foundational building blocks to strengthen WASH governance: Service Delivery Strengthening, Inclusive Planning, Accountability + Monitoring, Institutional Arrangements + Coordination, and Learning + Sector Adaptation. A core emphasis of Phase II is the transition from systems strengthening to systems delivery, ensuring tangible and sustainable WASH services for target communities. Phase II continues to embed these approaches within existing government structures and policies, reducing long-term dependency on external support. Advocacy and multi-stakeholder collaboration play a crucial role in promoting financial sustainability, improved governance, and institutional adaptation.
