About this project

Rural areas in Madagascar are confronted with changing socio-economic conditions: Withdrawal of the state, transformation of agricultural systems, population growth, inequality, poverty and rapid urbanisation. Farmers do not have the means to afford to increase the amount of land they cultivate due to a lack of materials and skills. Women in particular are unable to emancipate themselves and become financially independent. The local partner is committed to helping marginalized and needy groups of the Malagasy population. The aim is to establish solid rural cooperatives and production communities in order to achieve financial independence and food self-sufficiency for 560 farming families. The development of these cooperatives is accompanied by a skills transfer through a training programme on the topics of gender, inclusion, hygiene, reforestation and ecology.
