About this project
1. Capacity building for sustainable management and conservation of peat swamp forests, for a protected 200-hectare peat swamp forest (Hutan Adat). It is part of a total of 4,000 hectares of land owned by a cooperative with 160 members (mainly Dayak). Creation of a manual with a management plan and regulations for forest use, as well as development of prototypes with the highest added value for processing and marketing. 2. Supporting the transformation of 200 smallhold farmers into competitive, sustainable entrepreneurs through training and technical support in implementing sustainable practices on their land based on a proven local agroforestry model as well as introducing alternative market channels. 3. Establishment of a community-based processing unit with sustainable economic practices through an association of representatives from the target groups. This unit is intended to create added value for both selected agroforestry products from farmers and forest products from the Dayaks. Processing extends the shelf life of the products and achieves higher market prices. It serves to provide a fair sales market for the target groups (Dayak cooperative and 200 farmers).
