About this project
The construction and establishment of a training center with sustainable impact and alternative employment opportunities for women empowerment targets the most marginalized group of women and girls, especially former Soweis (circumcisers) and young girls who could not complete their formal education, in the communities in Port Loko district. The project aims to empower women and girls through skills training (tailoring, gara tie and soap making skills as well as basic knowledge of sustainable agriculture) to improve their employment opportunities so that they can stand on their own two feet and improve their economic status and thus contribute to the well-being of their families and the development of the community. To this end, a training workshop for tailors is to be set up in which women who give up their work as soweis women can be trained. This training should give them the opportunity to earn an income by making their own tailor-made products instead of working as traditional tailors. There will also be a garden project for growing vegetables, which will not only produce healthy food but also work with the women to develop ways of generating income by growing and selling vegetables.
