About this project

Women in the water catchment area of the Sibalom River in the west of Panay Island are particularly dependent on access to water and natural resources. Nevertheless, their participation in decision-making bodies and other governance structures regarding the management of these resources is very limited. Based on the experiences and successes of the local implementation partner Haribon Foundation in increasing the influence of women in the management of protected areas on the island of Luzon and bringing about social change, this approach is now to be extended to the island of Panay. The project aims to empower women and emphasize their role not only in ensuring the well-being of the family and community, but also in the management of natural resources. This includes, in particular, managing environmental risks, strengthening climate resilience and securing livelihoods through alternative sources of income.
