About this project
The forest resources given to the indigenous Urarina communities for use are to be used sustainably for forestry and agroforestry. The forestry uses should meet the legal requirements. Forest monitoring should provide a result on the existing tree population (biodiversity) and provide information on past overuse due to logging and agricultural use after slash-and-burn. To regenerate the resulting secondary forests, reforestation measures are planned in defined zones of sustainable forestry with nursery-grown seedlings of species that have become rare for timber and fruit utilization. In zones of more intensive use with agricultural production, agroforestry utilization systems will also be introduced. In order to acquire knowledge and practical skills for sustainable forest and agroforestry management and use of the forest resource, community leaders are trained on the legal situation and local managers and advisors are trained in sustainable forestry and ecological agroforestry for the practical application and dissemination of knowledge and skills among the population of the Urarina communities. The measures are carried out in cooperation with forestry and agricultural authorities. In addition, secondary schools in the Urarina region are offered teaching units on forest protection and use, agroforestry and biodiversity.
