About this project

Juru is one of the driest areas in Rwanda. A household survey conducted with the University of Rwanda revealed that the majority of the predominantly smallholder households live below the poverty line, only 26% are considered food secure and water is scarce. The aim of the project is to increase income, achieve food security and improve living conditions while at the same time specifically promoting the economic resources, visibility and rights of women in line with the Just Transition Strategy. Activities include training, anti-erosion measures, improving water supply, a revolving fund for womens saving groups and the construction of a solar-powered cold room for vegetables. The project is designed to complement existing local development cooperation projects. The local partner is the national NGO Caritas Rwanda.
