About this project
Thanks to its diverse microclimates, the project region offers the rural population cultivation opportunities for various (field) fruits and Andean cereals. Structural problems such as the control of large areas by the drug mafia, widespread social conflicts and environmental destruction due to (illegal) mining, poverty and institutionalised corruption mean that the Apurímac region is far removed from the idea of a middle-income country and is described as a ‘failed region’. The aim of the project is therefore to strengthen social leaders from the project region to promote practices and strategies of internal democracy in their organisations and social action in order to contribute to an alternative model for the future with a focus on agroecology and ‘good living’ (Buen Vivir). To this end, two programmes are being implemented to strengthen social organisations and environmental education, as well as Supporting various dialogue forums and consultation bodies at local and regional level to promote debates and the development of proposals on environmental, intercultural and gender justice.
