About this project

The project region has experienced a significant increase in insecurity and violence in recent years, making it one of the most dangerous regions in Ecuador and Latin America. The ancestral and communal territories there have been fragmented by illegal land ownership for several decades. Most of the communal land has been sold to palm oil, timber and mining companies that cause a series of environmental impacts and damage to nature and ecology, and these activities are neither regulated nor controlled by the government and its competent institutions, The communities living in the project region are able to protect themselves from illegal extractive activities and preserve their biodiversity and cultural identity. Planned activities include reforestation, water conservation, economic alternatives to mining, agroecology, peace and environmental education. Target groups: indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian communities with a special focus on children and young people.
