About this project

Mining reforms have simplified concession procedures in the country. When implementing the projects, the necessary community consultations are not carried out, environmentalists are criminalised and the habitat of indigenous and farming communities is permanently destroyed. The aim is to protect water sources, forests and moors in the project region and to defend collective rights against the effects of mining. The target group consists of 830 indigenous and smallholder families as well as anti-mining initiatives in the communities, farmers associations and water protection organisations. Project measures for implementation include awareness-raising and training measures, setting up early warning systems against illegal mining activities and rights violations, training managers, developing safety and protection measures and promoting economic alternatives to mining.
