About this project
Despite the countrys wealth, a significant proportion of South Africas urban population lives in informal settlements, in poverty and under the worst living conditions - with deficient water supply, housing quality and utilities. The aim is therefore to develop socially and ecologically sustainable development concepts with and for particularly disadvantaged urban dwellers and to influence government policy, increasingly also with a view to climate change-related vulnerability. Learning programs to increase resource protection, income and housing security as well as training on housing rights are carried out, and strategies for successful advocacy are also taught. The target groups are poor urban households, primarily those living in informal settlements, as well as the grassroots organizations representing them and local and national policy actors.
