About this project
For the indigenous peoples in the project region, most of whom live from subsistence farming, the generation of monetary income is playing an increasingly important role. In the last 5-6 decades or so, there has also been a strong influx of families from the highlands who have settled and whose agriculture is largely characterized by the cultivation of cash crops. The way of life of both population groups is increasingly threatened by the consequences of climate change (long and intense periods of drought and heavy rainfall with flooding). In addition, there are further threats from the spread of agribusiness and other forms of extractivism. The project objectives are to strengthen food security and the resilience of indigenous and smallholder production systems against the consequences of climate change, to generate income and to support indigenous and smallholder organizations in protecting their livelihoods. Key measures include support, training and advice on the establishment and management of agroforestry systems (SAFs), training multipliers, strengthening poducer associations through further training, carrying out participatory risk analyses at community level, developing management plans and awareness-raising work.
