About this project
The climatic conditions in the project region are very favourable for agricultural production, with two rainy seasons. Nevertheless, the project region is also affected by the consequences of climate change. Long periods of drought, flooding and soil erosion are becoming more frequent. The increasing population density in rural areas and the division of land are contributing to a further reduction in the already scarce land available to family farms. Land pressure is increasing enormously in some areas. The need to produce intensively and diversify on ever smaller areas is a challenge. Conventional farming methods are reaching their limits as soil fertility declines. Conceptual adjustments are needed to promote smallholder farming. This is where the project comes in. Through agroecological approaches, smallholder farmers are enabled to increase their yields and increase their income by opening up new markets. A particular focus is on working with schools. The benefits of agroecological farming are to be made clear to pupils and school-based agricultural clubs are to integrate agroecological approaches into everyday school life. Another important component is income-generating measures in the field of agriculture for young people.
