Adapted sustainable rural development for food security in Malawi

About this project

Living conditions in the project region are severely affected by high poverty rates, food insecurity, low agricultural productivity and the effects of climate change. The population lives mainly from small-scale subsistence farming, which is increasingly threatened by irregular rainfall, pest infestation and soil degradation. The project focuses on adapted, sustainable rural development to improve food security and economic stability for households. It combines agroecological measures with business impact monitoring to promote both ecological and economic sustainability. A particular focus is on securing land rights and strengthening the self-help capacities of the target groups. Project activities include training for local multipliers and smallholder farmers, the distribution of seeds and livestock, tree planting, networking with suppliers of agricultural inputs, measures for land surveying and conflict management. In addition, public relations, monitoring and fundraising activities will be carried out to increase the impact and visibility of the project.
