Empowering indigenous cultures and livelihoods in the Javari Valley of the western Amazon region in Brazil

About this project

The background to the project is the precarious situation facing the local, mainly indigenous population in the western Amazon state of Brazil. The Javari Valley in Brazil is characterized by high biodiversity and indigenous peoples who suffer from threats such as deforestation and illegal fishing. The project aims to protect and manage natural resources and strengthen the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples. The target groups include 22 indigenous leaders, 36 indigenous youth, 20 indigenous filmmakers, and 75 indigenous teachers. Key project measures include updating environmental and territorial management, protecting turtle and fish populations, training indigenous environmental officers, strengthening indigenous organizations politically, and promoting traditional knowledge.
