About this project

In Mombasa, Kenyas second largest city with a population of around 1.2 million, there are over 72 informal settlements. The economic, social, and cultural rights of these people, including the right to adequate housing, are often violated, among other things through violent evictions. They also often have no political voice. The aim of the project is therefore to increase housing and land rights, climate justice, and civic participation among residents of informal settlements. Workshops on land and housing rights are held, resident-oriented settlement priorities are developed, and advocacy measures for more equitable and participatory urban policy and planning are implemented. The direct target groups are organized residents of informal settlements and political decision-makers at the local and national levels.
