About this project

Youth unemployment in Ukraine, especially in rural areas, is high and affects young women, internally displaced persons and young people from low-income households particularly severely. The war has further exacerbated this situation. Families have been displaced, schools destroyed and local markets disrupted. In this situation in particular, prospects for young people are crucial in order to give them hope, prevent migration and strengthen social cohesion. The project thus strengthens the employability of around 1,200 disadvantaged young people aged 14–18 and around 60 young adults aged 18–30 through practice-oriented vocational training, the promotion of green entrepreneurship and links to local jobs and training places. There is a particular focus on young women, who receive targeted support to develop climate-resilient agricultural and food initiatives. At the same time, resilience and psychosocial stability are promoted as part of vocational training. Individual counselling, mentoring and practical support in setting up businesses facilitate the transition from training to employment. The strong involvement of schools, communities, church actors and local businesses creates a sustainable structure that can remain effective beyond the project period. The project thus not only contributes to poverty reduction, but also to the resilience of rural regions in the midst of war and to preparations for sustainable post-war reconstruction.
