About this project
The project aims to equip residents (students, teachers, parents and the surrounding communities of eight-year-old primary school students) in Blantyre with the knowledge and skills they need to understand the impacts of climate change and climate-related extreme events and to respond to them effectively. Therefore students and teachers are trained in interactive units, practical exercises and discussions on the topics of sustainable energy use, mapping and assessing risk areas, climate change adaptation, prevention measures and psychosocial support. The core of the training is the creation of climate risk maps, which include information on terrain conditions, possible risks and contact points in the event of climate-related extreme events in selected districts. As part of the project, the infrastructure in 10 primary schools in the city of Blantyre is also to be improved in order to better deal with climate-related crisis situations.
