About this project
In the area of self-help-oriented construction of urban infrastructure and housing, qualitative aspects of construction are often not sufficiently taken into account in South Africa, and residents of disadvantaged neighbourhoods are not adequately involved. The aim of the project is therefore to contribute to sustainable urban development for residents of selected settlements through participatory and technically sound model projects for settlement upgrading, with a focus on electricity and sanitation supply and measures for adaptation to climate change. Settlement-specific analyses, planning workshops and advocacy measures are being carried out, including in the area of economic empowerment of residents through employment in settlement improvement measures.
