Strengthening environmental and water protection and the level of mobilisation among the local population in Guatemala

About this project

In Guatemala, mining, agribusiness and other large-scale projects are causing serious land conflicts that are putting indigenous and smallholder communities under severe pressure. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that in many places the state is failing to fulfil its duty to protect and is prioritising economic interests over the welfare of the population. The aim of the project is therefore to strengthen the territorial legal security of local communities, promote their awareness of water and environmental protection, and advance reforestation projects. This will be achieved through targeted advice, exchanges of experience, water monitoring, public relations measures and political lobbying. The target group consists mainly of indigenous communities. Women and young people are given special support.
