About this project
The majority of agriculture in the project area is geared towards industrial farming with high levels of chemical and pesticide use. Many members of ethnic minorities are pressured to also engage in monoculture farming using artificial and expensive fertilisers and pesticides. In most cases, they have to take out loans from traders at exorbitant interest rates. If the harvest falls short of expectations, they are unable to service their loans and fall into a debt trap. Many children drop out of school early and thus have poor prospects for the future. The project implementation agency supports the target groups in transitioning to sustainable, ecological agriculture adapted to climate change and in improving their income through training, support for model projects, networking with experts and exchange visits. Forest products are manufactured and marketed in forest product groups. Children are also supported in their development. Tutoring gives them a better chance of successfully continuing their schooling. The project implementation agency also teaches them practical life skills (e.g. communication skills and discipline). The children are introduced to ecological agriculture and environmental protection in a playful way.
