About this project

Due to environmentally harmful production in industry, agriculture and mining, including in neighbouring countries, water resources in El Salvador are polluted. Rural communities in particular are severely restricted in their supply and have to contend with negative effects on their mostly small-scale agriculture and thus economic development, as well as on their health. There are no government measures in place to safeguard the situation. On the contrary, the proposed legislation to resume metal mining further threatens the availability of water. The project supports measures aimed primarily at protecting water and the environment at the municipal level. Training and further education courses, exchange meetings and political advocacy activities are carried out at national and international level.
